Supreme Court Upholds Party Membership Register Requirements

On September 24, 2026, the Supreme Court delivered judgment in INEC v. Zenith Labour Party, upholding Section 77 of the Electoral Act 2026. The judgment confirms that political parties must submit their digital membership registers to INEC at least 21 days before primaries, congresses and conventions, and that only members on the submitted register may vote or be voted for. Following the judgment, the APC, in a letter dated October 9, 2026 signed by National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda and National Secretary Sen. Ajibola Basiru, urged INEC to enforce the ruling across all parties ahead of the 2027 general election.

Tinubu Clinches APC Presidential Ticket with 10.9 Million Votes

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, winning the party’s nationwide direct presidential primary held on Saturday, May 23, 2026. The primary was conducted across 8,809 wards in all 774 local government areas. Announcing the result on May 24, 2026, the Chairman of the APC Presidential Primary Election Committee, Senator Pius Anyim, declared President Tinubu winner with 10,999,162 votes, ahead of his challenger Mr. Stanley Osifo. In his acceptance speech, the President pledged to consolidate ongoing reforms and deepen national development.

INEC Publishes Final List of 18 Presidential Candidates for 2027

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final list of 18 presidential candidates and their running mates for the 2027 general election. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is listed as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Also on the list are former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar (ADC) and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi (NDC), alongside candidates of 15 other parties. The presidential and National Assembly elections hold on Saturday, January 16, 2027.
